A rare George III 'Lozenge' shaped Patch Box made in Birmingham in 1809 by Samuel Pemberton.
245156
The Patch Box is of the rare lozenge form and is engraved on the cover with chequered designs and on the base with a foliate sprig, surrounded by a wriggle work border. This piece is also unusual in that it is a hinged example, as they usually have pull off covers. Patch Boxes were used to carry small patches, shaped as crescents, stars etc, which would have been placed decoratively on the face. This unusual example is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the the interior of both the cover and base.
