A rare George II Sugar Caster made in Glasgow circa 1745 by James Glen.
175991
The Caster stands on a circular pedestal foot decorated with reeding. The main body is baluster shaped in form and is also decorated with reeding. The pull off cover is pierced and engraved with panels of scroll work and flower heads, in addition to panels pierced with roundels and engraved with trellis work. The cover terminates in a cast bell finial. The foot is very well marked with the makers mark twice, Glasgow Town Mark and the date letter S. Casters are scarce from Scotland at this date and to find an example from Glasgow is particularly rare.
