A rare early George I Britannia Standard Childs Mug made in London in 1717 by William Spackman

The Mug is of a very rare small size and was most probably made for a child. This piece is of the can shape, with slightly tapering sides and a flared reeded foot. The sides are decorated with reeding, as is the S scroll handle. The front of the main body is engraved with the contemporary inscription Martha Hodges surrounded by beautiful linear scrolls. The Mug is very well marked on the side of the main body and this piece has a very good colour. This is a most unusual size and may well have been a christening mug for Martha Hodges.
