A rare cast ' Pierced Vine' pattern Sauce Ladle made in London in 1853 by Francis Higgins.

The Ladle is palely gilded and cast. The handle is modelled in the rare pierced vine pattern and would have almost certainly been used on the dessert table. The oval bowl has unusual pleated corners and is engraved with vine leaves and grapes. The handle is attached to the bowl with vine leaf mouldings and the reverse of the bowl displays a very crisp set of hallmarks. This is a rare pattern, almost always seen on dessert flatware.

Length: 6.1 inches, 15.3 inches.
