A magnificent pair of cast George III 'Sea Shell' Salt Cellars made in London in 1818 by John Houle.

The Salts Cellars are circular in form with a shaped, gadrooned, everted rim. Each piece stands on three unusual Rococo scroll feet and the sides are beautifully decorated with very unusual garlands of a variety of raised sea shells. The interiors are finely gilded and the base displays a full set of hallmarks. Sea Shell Salt Cellars are seldom seen on the market today and this pair are in excellent, crisp, original condition. John Houle was a very fine maker, whose work does not survive in great quantity.

Height: 2.45 inches, 6.13cm.

Diameter: 3.9 inches, 9.75cm.

Weight: 17oz, the pair.
