A George III Fish Vinaigrette, Birmingham, 1818, Joseph Willmore
120679
This very rare Vinaigrette is modelled as an articulated fish. The surface is engraved with detailed scale work and the end with the head and fins. This piece also has a finely detailed tail and top fin. The head opens up to reveal a gilded interior and hinged grille, pierced and engraved with foliate motifs. These fish vinaigrettes are unusually unmarked, however this piece has a full set of hall marks on the tail and a makers mark on the underside of the grille. The Vinaigrette also has its original suspensory ring attached to the head.
