A George II Silver & Mother of Pearl Escutcheon Snuff Box made circa 1730
120675
This very rare Snuff Box has an escutcheon shaped form and was made almost certainly in London circa 1730. The beautiful cover is finely engraved with Rococo shell and foliate scrolls as well as flower heads. The cover is also inset with a circular domed cornelian in a scalloped mount. The silver sides are decorated with reeding and this example has a serpentine shaped thumb piece. The base is most unusually made of mother of pearl which is decorated with linear raying bands and a central oval.
